Fehmarn Dispute

The Fehmarn Dispute (known in Denmark as the Occupation) was a conflict between Denmark and Germany (Deutsches Reich) regarding the 2020 founding of a German city in Southern Denmark. The incident began in early 2020 with the creation of Fehmarn, a Germany-controlled city, on islands claimed by Denmark. According to Denmark, construction of the city was followed by a threat of invasion by Germany. Denmark responded by erecting a wall to prevent further expansion by German citizens. Parts of the wall remain and have yet to be removed. Denmark has since opened the Museum of the Occupation in Copenhagen, Denmark, to document the incident. The new German Empire (Deutsches Kaiserreich) agreed to formally unclaim the lands in December 2020.
